You're invited to apply for a distinctive second-year of residency specializing in Veterans’ care, mental health chaplaincy and Women Veterans’ care at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. You will be in a peer group of at least 4 Second-year (Level II) Residents. Our new CPE Center at the MEDVAMC in Houston is a candidate for accreditation with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (1549 Clairmont Rd., Suite 103, Decatur, GA 30033-4653 Phone: 404-320-1472). Prospective students may learn about Level II Learning Outcomes for CPE by visiting: www.acpe.edu. Stipend is approximately $30,000 per year.

Notes: (1) Students enrolled in our CPE programs may receive a pass/fail rating, as requested by their school. (2) All non-U.S. citizens, regardless of type of CPE Unit, applying for CPE must submit proof that they have registered with the U.S. Selective Service. (3) Non-citizens, whether working with compensation (stipended)or without compensation (WOC: e.g., summer or extended), may be accepted into training when no qualified citizens are available and it is determined to be in the interest of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA). Qualifications:
- A 4 year undergraduate degree (BA or BS) required from an accredited organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
- Acceptance into the CPE Program
- A 3 year seminary graduate degree (Master of Divinity or equivalent) from a seminary or theological school accredited by the Association of Theological Schools or a similarly credentialed accrediting agency
- Professional pastoral experience or 1 year specialized ministry preferred
